WHY DOES GOD MAKE US WAIT?
"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him." (Psalm 37:7)
I learned a lesson the last time I went to Disney World with my 3 children.
We arrived at the Magic Kingdom before it opened and it was raining that morning. “Nobody” was there. We went in and started to go to the attractions. We made our first stop and walked right in cause there was no line. We went to the next attraction and found the same thing again: no line. We went to another one. No line again. Then we went to our favorite ride, Space Mountain, and praise God there was no line! I couldn’t believe it. No line. We walked right in. After we rode Space Mountain, we started walking to another ride. I looked at my 12 year old daughter and said, “this doesn’t feel like Disney World today, there’s nobody here and it’s not as much fun”. She said, “yes, I know”. She sensed what I did.
Well, as we checked out a few more attractions, the weather started to clear up, the sun came out, and more people quickly showed up at the park.
After a short break for some ice cream, we went back to ride Space Mountain again. This time, at Space Mountain, we had to wait. There was a line. We waited maybe 15 minutes. After we rode the ride, we all said, “wow, that was great. It was more fun than the first time”. Then it hit me. Why was it more fun? I knew the answer. Cause I had to wait. The wait actually make the ride better. Wow, what a lesson. Maybe God makes us wait for things cause He wants to make them better for us. It never dawned on me but I believe that now to be true. And then I noticed another thing at Disney World: the best attractions have the longest lines! So maybe the best God has for us has the longest wait!
